Thursday 25th February 2010 "Cancer – What does the future hold ?” & Essential ABI Updates"
Dear Member,
We are pleased to announce that the next meeting of the Health Claims Forum will be held on Thursday 25 February 2010 at the ETC conference centre, Dexter House’.
For directions please see website – http://www.etcvenues.co.uk/venues/dexter house
At this forum we will be looking at the latest medical advancements in the area of Cancer as well as a number of ongoing industry developments and the impact both topics may have on the future management of claims.
The day is aimed at assessors with at least 18 months experience, in dealing with difficult cancer claims or claims managers who have an interest in keeping up to date on medical advancements and future industry developments.
We are fortunate to be able to invite Dr Victor Barley, Consultant Oncologist and CMO at RGA who will provide us with his expert knowledge on a number of medical advancements. In particular from a terminal illness perspective touching upon the latest advances in drug treatment regimes and new stages of treatment, recent survival trends, as well as providing us tips we can use in interpreting with any degree of certainty when survival is to be less than 12 months and how median survival rates can be used if at all.
He will also be looking at cancer from a critical illness definition perspective and focus particularly on the diagnosis and prognosis of more borderline invasive tumours, the complexities of assessing micro invasion and tumours that are termed as having low malignant potential and how these fit with the critical illness definition.
Phil Cleverley, Chief Underwriter at SCOR Global Life, will talk us through the ABI genetics code and moratorium and explain what genetic information can and cannot be used; the differences between a diagnostic and predictive genetic test and the potential future impact disease penetration rates may have on family history risks.
David Barnes & Heather Buckridge, Aviva Health UK will then share their experiences in the active management of cancer IP claims and proactive techniques available to achieve a successful rehabilitation to the work place following treatment.
In the afternoon Nick Kirwan will provide us with an update on the work currently being undertaken by the ABI, including the implications of the Law Commission proposals and the work carried out to date by the IP and TPD working parties. Sally-Ann Etienne, Swiss Re, will then provide the group with a more detailed insight in to the proposals being worked on by the TPD working party.
The cost of this forum is £90 per person.
